Through your computer, mobile phone, and other digital devices, you leave behind hundreds of digital traces or data: bits of information about you that are created, stored, and collected. Based in our belief in your rights as a user, here we try to give you a full view of what data we collect about you, and how we use it.
Many websites link to their “privacy policies” from their homepages, but what they actually tell you is how they plan to use your data. We believe that it is important to be transparent that this policy is a promise about how we will use the data you leave when you visit this site, but neither this promise nor the promise of any other site gives you full privacy.
The Data Use Policy is a compulsory legal disclosure of how a website operator collects, retains and shares personally identifiable information. In other words, it’s often a list of ways your personal data is not private and under their control. There are legitimate reasons that people and organisations running websites need to keep data about your visits. We limit the data that we keep to only what we need for maintaining the site and satisfying legal and funding-related reporting requirements.
What do we do with your data?
We will not rent or sell any personally-identifying information to anyone. We do not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below. Where possible, we aim to provide you with a fully functioning website — even if you do not supply personally-identifying information we request for site functionality.
We take all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorised access, use, alteration, or destruction of personally-identifying information.
On the long run
This website is part of Leil Zahra’s project as a Mozilla Fellow 2019/2020. After the conclusion of the fellowship, there is a possibility that this project will be transferred to another non-profit civil society organization to continue the work. In this case, all data will be transferred under the guarantee of respect and enforcement of the full agreement in this data use policy. We will inform users and the public of any transfers and we will include this data use policy as a key point in any agreement with any (non-profit civil society) third party.
We have worked hard to keep all “third party” trackers out of the website. We have opted to not include social media share buttons to limit the amount of data tracked by social media platforms. BUT we couldn’t find an alternative to the reCaptcha owned by Google. Please note that we are working hard to find an alternative, and we are open to recommendations.
reCaptcha collects the following:
A reCAPTCHA-specific cookie will be added to the user’s browser, and a complete snapshot of the user’s browser window at that moment in time will be captured, pixel by pixel.
Some of the browser and user information collected at this time includes:
- All cookies placed by Google over the last 6 months,
- How many mouse clicks you’ve made on that screen (or touches if on a touch device),
- The CSS information for that page,
- The date,
- The language your browser is set to,
- Any plug-ins you have installed on the browser, and
